Dear Esteemed Students, Respected Staff, Valued Stakeholders, and Distinguished Guests,

It is both an honor and a privilege to welcome you to Mutolere Health Institute. Our institution is not just a place of learning; it is a community dedicated to excellence in healthcare education and a relentless commitment to shaping the future of healthcare in Uganda and beyond.

Our story begins with the visionary Franciscan Sisters of Breda, who, in 1984, recognized the acute shortage of healthcare professionals, particularly nurses and midwives, and embarked on a journey to make a profound difference. Today, Mutolere Health Institute stands as a testament to their enduring dedication.

We take immense pride in being a private not-for-profit (PNFP) institution, deeply rooted in our affiliation with the Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau and our belonging to the Kabale Diocese. Our commitment to healthcare education is validated by our registration with the Ministry of Education and Sports, where we are classified under Vocational Training, bearing registration number ME/TVET/097.

Our institution has evolved significantly since its inception, introducing a wide array of programs to meet the ever-changing healthcare landscape. From a humble beginning with just two students, we have grown to have an enrollment of 327 aspiring healthcare professionals, nearing our maximum capacity of 350 students.

We are situated in a place of extraordinary natural beauty, nestled in the heart of Southwestern Uganda. While we are surrounded by picturesque hills and fertile volcanic soils, we are also mindful of the historical and geopolitical significance of our location, bordered by the Republics of Congo and Rwanda.

Challenges have marked our journey, including economic impacts stemming from insecurity in Rwanda and ongoing conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The COVID-19 pandemic further tested our resilience, leading to a complete lockdown and the temporary closure of educational institutions. But, in the face of adversity, we have remained steadfast in our mission.

Our commitment to education and the advancement of healthcare has led us to develop a strategic plan. Our vision is to become a “Centre of excellence to train healthcare personnel,” while our mission is to “Train competent healthcare professionals through intensive teaching, clinical practice, and research.” We are guided by a set of core values that include Prayer, Professionalism, Discipline, Integrity, Teamwork, Transparency, and Punctuality.

In the next five years, our strategic objectives will focus on enhancing discipline and the quality of health care training, creating a conducive teaching and learning environment, fostering the use of educational technology and research, strengthening staff capacity, expanding the scope of health training, improving alumni relations, enhancing the relationship with our hospital partners, improving staff welfare, and enhancing income generation to ensure the sustainability of our institution.

As we look forward to the future, we invite you to join us on this transformative journey. Whether you are a prospective student, a dedicated faculty or staff member, a valued partner, or a committed stakeholder, your involvement and support are vital to our continued success.

Our doors are open, and we welcome you to explore the opportunities and possibilities that Mutolere Health Institute offers. Feel free to reach out to us for more information on our programs and how you can become a part of our vibrant and dynamic community.

Thank you for choosing Mutolere Health Institute, where together, we are shaping the future of healthcare excellence.

Warm regards,
